Founders of SOPAR-Bala Vikasa received the Meritorious Service Cross.
On December 12, 2017 Angèle and André Gingras were invited to Rideau Hall to receive their decoration from the Governor General Julie Payette. The Meritorious Service Cross is presented to Canadians who, through their exceptional professionalism and innovative actions, serve as examples and role models.
In 2016, the couple was also crowned ‘Personality of the Year Le Droit/Radio-Canada’ in the Volunteer and Engagement category. In 2012, Mrs. Gingras had received the Order of Gatineau.
SOPAR-Bala Vikasa is recognized today as a model organization working with poor communities and implementing programs that bring lasting change. In 40 years, 40 million dollars have been sent to India to support more than 4 million people. Change agents from more than 65 countries have been trained up to date on sustainable approaches and methods at SOPAR’s training center in India.
“SOPAR has achieved great things with the support of thousands of Canadians who believe in international solidarity. These medals are the reward of our collective action. We thank all of you.”
